The Economic and Social Research institute (ESRI) published a report “Care to college: An exploratory study on care-experienced students’ educational journeys”.
The report is an exploratory study by Merike Darmody. It highlights the importance of combined effects of school experiences and care experiences on the post-school lives of young people. The main finding of the report was that “young people with care experiences often struggle to stay engaged in school and plan for life after it because of frequent moves between care placements and schools, limited academic support, feelings of being less capable than their peers, and mental health challenges”. The report also provided some policy recommendations for schools, teachers, social workers and inter-agency work.
