The Department of the Taoiseach published the ‘First Progress Report of Climate Action Plan 2024’ on 22 July 2025.
The Quarter 1 Progress Report of the 2025 Climate Action Plan (CAP25) focuses on the six sectors with the highest greenhouse gas emissions, as well as on cross-cutting actions. The report provides updates on sectoral Key Performance Indicators, emissions trends, and high impact case studies. The main finding of the report is that ‘Ireland’s emissions have been falling for the last three years, and now has lower overall emissions that at any point in the last 35 years, despite the population growth by 50% over that period and rapid economic development since then’. The report finds real progress in the areas of energy, transport, and agriculture.
